01 Mar HofArc Community Outreach Philosophy
“A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.” -Ancient Greek Proverb
As a family-run company, Hofmann Architecture has community outreach and social altruism at the core of its business philosophy. The goal of designing sustainable small spaces for the mobile lifestyle extends beyond enriching the immediate community of our clients, employees, and builders — we are driven to encourage all people to take action and to pursue the lives of their dreams, while inspiring those around them to do the same.
At HofArc, we choose to focus less on worldwide or nationwide economic growth and more on advancing the potential of people in our own backyard. We feel that profit is merely a byproduct of our success, not the other way around. That’s why we partner with and support local organizations throughout the year to help further their missions and help nurture our hometown.
Interested in joining us in our commitment to give back to those in need? Here are eight of HofArc’s favorite advocacy groups and community organizations to consider:
1. Santa Barbara Partners in Education
Youth education has been a major priority of our efforts since 2010. We have been actively involved with Santa Barbara Partners in Education, mentoring youth as career counselors and providing students with opportunities to gain valuable work experience through exposing them to real-world business practices. Their goal is to support a more vibrant economy, the health of our community, and the well-being and success of students and their families. Partners in Education is always happy to recruit enthusiastic volunteers.
2. Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition
The Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition (SBBIKE) has been working with City Administrators, Educators, and Planners to make Santa Barbara a great place to ride a bike for over 25 years. HofArc fully embraces their mission of promoting bicycling for clean and safe transportation, as well as the healthful benefits and recreation it offers. SBBIKE provides volunteer opportunities for education and advocacy work throughout the year– so whether it’s showing someone how to fix a bike, ride it safely, or help park it, SBBIKE volunteers make the Santa Barbara community stronger.
3. Youth Interactive
We also partner with Youth Interactive to help students become creative entrepreneurs by starting their own small businesses and growing them into larger ones. Furthermore, our comprehensive Internship Development Program has been instrumental in providing UCSB and SBCC students with experience in the fields of marketing, public relations, and design. Youth interactive encourages involvement of all kinds, including donating, working, advising, interning, mentoring, teaching, volunteering, spreading the word on social media, and empowering youth by attending art shows and other events.
4. Santa Barbara Rescue Mission
In recent years, we have seen a tragic increase in the population of homeless men and women in our local neighborhood. As a hands-on approach to addressing this crisis, we started working with the Santa Barbara Rescue Mission. With their leadership, we have helped to provide meals, clean up parks, and assist in various drug and alcohol recovery programs in Santa Barbara County. This has been an excellent way for us to connect with other activists within our community and to help empower countless men and women in our neighborhood.
5. The Young and Brave Foundation
The Young and Brave Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping today’s youth and their families overcome the challenges and hardships brought on by cancer. Built on the foundation of LOVE, they exist to inspire, encourage, inform, as well as to invest directly into treatment and recovery. They do so through networking, individual fundraising drives, community building, and financial support. Their goal is to fight cancer alongside those that shouldn’t have to fight alone.
6. Santa Barbara Foodbank
The Foodbank of Santa Barbara County’s mission is to end hunger and transform the health of Santa Barbara County through food education and empowerment. SB Foodbank deals with the challenges of hunger, nutrition, and obesity with their food distribution and combined community efforts. By volunteering with or donating to the Foodbank you can help support the nutritional health of 1 in 4 people in Santa Barbara. In 2016, HofArc held a holiday open house fundraiser that raised more than $1000 for the Foodbank. We hope you’ll join us in supporting this wonderful organization in 2017.
7. SafeLaunch Santa Barbara
The SafeLaunch mission is to prevent young people from incurring brain damage or possible addiction caused by adolescent alcohol, tobacco, or drug use. By embracing current scientific evidence to inform adolescents and adults about the human brain, SafeLaunch inspires the message that prevention requires education and action, because addiction isn’t a choice. One hundred percent of donations to SafeLaunch help to fund youth addiction prevention programs. The founders, Ron and Janet are doing an amazing job for hundreds of local young people.
8. Hustlers for Humanity
The purpose of Santa Barbara Hustlers for Humanity is to unite the Santa Barbara community through service, with a mission to positively impact every resident of Santa Barbara. To recognize our Oneness with each other, and to unite in creating the world of our dreams– whether creating partnerships with nonprofits, handling volunteer coordination for major events, or connecting with individual members of the Santa Barbara community. Every day, Hustlers enthusiastically bring more joy to the lives of others. As their founders Sat and Matt (brothers) say, “We believe the best way to live life is to PLAY and HUSTLE — to give it everything you’ve got.”
Each of these incredible organizations provide fun and unique ways to get involved and make a positive impact on the Santa Barbara community.
Community outreach is more than a means to donate funds and to build relationships, it is a philosophy that we live by. When the fruits of our business practices transcend our individual needs, our work has purpose and our personal lives have meaning. As a company whose product is designed to enrich people’s lives by granting them more freedom, we strive to encourage our customers, friends, and family members to direct more of their time and energy to the people around them.
Even our Director of Goodness, Lilly the lab, volunteers at Cottage Hospital as a certified therapy dog. Join the community!
