1978 Excella 31′ – Marcia

About This Project


This 1970’s vintage trailer rolled out of Airstream’s Jackson Center, Ohio factory as a full-service travel RV with complete facilities for living, cooking, dining and sleeping.  In 2016, she was purchased by Ahold USA and transformed into a mobile pop-up store in Santa Barbara, CA. Marcia made her cross country voyage to Pennsylvania in June and only got stopped once by the California Highway Patrol for being too shiny.  She made her public debut in Washington D.C. in June and has been busy exciting local communities with her unique offering of Nature’s Promise products.

Location: Based in Pennsylvania, travelling from Massachusetts to Virginia


Purpose: Specialty grocery mobile display and demonstration vehicle


Design Highlights: The Airstream was transformed from a family RV into a commercial mobile display vehicle in Santa Barbara, CA. The 15’ wide automated gull wing was a first for Hofarc, and was given great consideration and focus, designed by Matthew himself. “This was an exciting feature, and our team wanted to make sure everything fit and functioned properly. We wanted to deliver something impressive, and I think we achieved that goal.”

  • – 14’ long, dual action Hofmann Architecture Copyright gull wing design
  • – Gull wing serves as a promotional billboard when in open position
  • – Electrically actuated 12-Volt gull wing door
  • – HofArc Proprietary and Copyright design to allow door to sit flush with exterior skin
  • – Dual weatherstripping with air pressure  equalization gap and water evacuating path of 
  •    travel  
  • – Side track with auto-close feature creates weather tight seal  
  • – Open interior plan suitable for event space and marketing collateral
  • – Significant chassis and shell reinforcement to accommodate gull wing opening
  • – Tri-level redundant safety mechanisms built into design for setup and user protection
  • – Polished exterior in preparation for vinyl wrap if client marketing brand image
  • – New aluminum skin interior with LED spot lighting throughout
